How we work
Newborn sessions run to the baby, not the clock. They feed, they sleep, they need changing, and the session pauses for all of it. We book a long window on purpose so nothing has to be rushed and nobody is watching the time.
No elaborate props and no poses that require handling a baby into a position. The photographs people keep are the ones with the parents in them, and those need nothing but a window and patience.
When to book
Maternity sessions photograph best between about seven and eight and a half months — far enough along to show, early enough to be comfortable standing and walking.
Newborn sessions are best in the first two weeks, while a baby still curls and sleeps deeply. After that it is not worse, only different, and many families prefer the awake photographs anyway.
Where
At home, usually. A newborn is calmer where they live, the parents are not packing a bag, and the room where the baby actually sleeps is more worth photographing than a studio set.
Maternity sessions work well outdoors in the hour before sunset, or at home in window light. Both, if you would like the pair.
