Photographing in Gudilova

Gudilova is a village of Anandapuram mandal, on the side of the city where the built-up part gives way to fields. Functions here are village-scale in the literal sense: the guest list is often most of the place, and it arrives together rather than across an evening.

What we photograph here

Weddings and receptions, naming ceremonies, first birthdays and family portrait sessions, most of them at home or at a hall nearby.

Planning around the place

When everyone arrives at once there is one chance at the group portraits, so we set the position and the light before the first car rather than after. Open surroundings make that easier than it is in the city — there is usually somewhere to put sixty people without backing into a wall.
