A half-day, not a production
A pre-wedding shoot works when it is somewhere that already means something to the two of you — the street you met on, the house one of you grew up in, the coffee shop that saw the whole courtship. It fails when it is a location scouted from a mood board, because the photographs are then of two people standing in a nice place rather than of two people.
We plan around the light rather than the hour. That usually means starting well before most people would like to be awake, or an hour before sunset, and it is the single decision that separates a photograph you frame from one you scroll past.
What to expect on the day
The first twenty minutes are always stiff. That is normal and we plan for it, which is why the shoot is a half-day rather than ninety minutes — by the time you have forgotten about the camera, there is still plenty of light left.
Bring a change of clothes and nothing else. You do not need props, and you certainly do not need to rehearse anything. If it helps, the best frames from most of these shoots come from the walk between two locations rather than from either of them.
